Song of the Death-Bed Bride

For my beloved R-, because words must needs be tortured in the half saying. And I'm so proud to know you.

The darkness wells up

I give him promises
like dew-fall.
My brow burns;
to ash,
I tell him:
'Touch me.'

Touch of fire
that burns my words out
put them to paper,
it curls,
crumbles syntax,
cataclysms the edges of form
creaks and groans
beneath it.

Silence where all else is fled.

A thousand tongued whispers,
more than the sum of all poems,
his touch,
lover of my spirit.
Love. Teacher to me of the meanings
words dance over
their eruption.

And I tell him:
'Touch me.'
In the ways that lie buried
in the dust of the forgetfulness,
in the places hands can't reach.
Leave not the faerie
adamantine core of me
wanting her mate, but give me
his immortal eyes on fire
refracted eternally,
in the pools of mine.

A perpetual embrace
our memories dance about
like a celestial watch-fire,
never lost sight of.
Unspeakable embrace,
of knowing, that life's love-making
stretches out it's fingers toward in want.
My fingers trembled, with such want.
Now they reach surely,
without ever reaching.
Always touching his,
at the centre,
and finding there the All.

Alice, your poetry is wonderful! But I must ask a favour; can you tell me the artist responsible for the picture at the top of this post?

Thank you for continuing to share your art, I do love it so.
